Why Are Orlando Theme Park Tickets So Expensive?
There is no getting around the fact that Orlando theme park tickets are expensive. They will likely amount to roughly half your trip cost if you’re thinking of visiting all the parks. So, I wanted to add a little perspective about why the tickets cost what they do, and when you break down what you’re actually getting, we get a really great price on our theme park tickets in the UK.
Disney Magic Tickets come in 2 durations, 7 or 14 days. Universal only has a 14-day duration, but United Parks (the owners of SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, and Discovery Cove) give you shorter options, if you wish. Purchasing a 14-day ticket seems like a waste when visiting for 3 days, so it’s only understandable that you want to find cheaper tickets.
Park operators realise that it costs us a lot to visit from the UK, but on average, we spend more time and money in the parks than practically any other demographic. They offer entrance at a loss in the hope that we will (and usually do) spend more time and money in the parks. I’ll go into detail about shorter duration tickets soon, but first, here is a look at the relative cost of our UK ticket options.

This chart breaks down just the cost of each set of tickets by percentage of the total. I used one of the cheapest providers for Orlando theme park tickets, Your Ticket Genie, then added in Merlin tickets using their website prices. As a percantage there is very little between Disney and Universal at 33% and 34% respectively. United Parks is a 14-day ticket, and Merlin is a 7-attraction ticket, including 1 visit each to Legoland and Peppa Pig park, plus their ICON Park attractions. Shorter duration tickets are available for these attractions at slightly less cost.
What this chart doesn’t show is the actual value you receive if you were breaking it down into a per-day cost to visit each park, so let’s break these figures down even further.

Daily Ticket Cost Average
Assuming you will be using all days on your ticket, the average daily cost is surprisingly low compared to our UK parks. Ticket prices are set by the start date you input, so they can and do fluctuate. I have broken the daily cost down using one of the cheapest dates (August 10th), followed by the most expensive (December 22nd).
The value will be diluted somewhat if you want to visit all the parks, so you won’t be making full use of each ticket, which will push the average cost up slightly, but I still believe our tickets offer fantastic value for money.
If you’re looking at cutting the cost of tickets, you should think about booking either Disney or Universal, not both. United Parks offers the best value by a very long distance.
One very obvious difference is Disney’s surge pricing around busier times of the year. Remember that both Disney and Universal tickets are date-based, so please double-check your dates before you book your tickets. United Parks and Merlin are currently only tied to the year you choose, although all visits must be completed on or by December 31st that year.
Let’s compare these costs to another popular pastime, concert tickets, which are at record-high levels. On average, a concert ticket will cost 4 times that of a day in Disney World in August. Disney World’s theme parks are open, on average, 12 to 14 hours a day, so you’re getting a full day’s entertainment for a fraction of the cost of a concert ticket. Yes, the headline price of tickets might look expensive, but when you break it down to a daily cost, they really are fantastic value for money, even at busier times of the year.

UK Exclusive Tickets Explained
Disney and Universal tickets will have the biggest influence on the price you pay for theme park entry. Prices change almost daily, so bear in mind the following factors when looking for tickets.
Start Dates
Tickets are dependent on the start date. Sometimes moving your start date by a day or 2 can put you into a cheaper pricing category. This isn’t possible if booking Disney hotels & tickets together. United Parks are still priced by the year.
Sales
Don’t be blindsided by flashy sales headlines. They’re designed to get you to book and base prices are manipulated. Only take note of the final cost not the headline-grabbing percentage.
Cost
There are no discounts on single-day tickets. If you want to visit Disney or Universal for 3 days or more on average, shorter duration US ticket packages will cost more than our 14-day equivalents.
Always Compare
No matter how many times you check, always compare each seller every time before you decide to book. Cancellation and amendment policies are also important factors to take into consideration before you make your final decision.

The ticket doesn’t require reservations but will expire 14 days from first use or December 31st, whichever comes sooner.
Sepcial Events
Merlin’s special events in Legoland Florida are included in the ticket cost and not a seperate ticket. Check the operating calendar for dates.
Orlando Theme Park Ticket Brokers
Attraction Tickets
The largest and best-known ticket provider in the UK, and the official ticketing partner for Universal. They can get good deals on hotels and ticket packages, but usually work out one of the more expensive providers for just tickets. Don't take any notice of flashy discount deals as they still work out to be one of the most expensive providers. Only take note of the final figure.
Florida Tix
Going strong since 2005, Florida Tix is the Florida specialist of Attraction Tix, both consumer brands under Attraction World LTD based in Birmingham. With one of the slickest-looking websites around, and a constant barrage of offers, Florida Tix is right up there with Attraction Tickets in size. Trusted by thousands of customers yearly, I would urge you all to shop around, as they rarely work out the cheapest in my research.
Your Ticket Genie
The newest company in the UK ticket space, Your Ticket Genie, started in the summer of 2022. Completely UK-based, they have made a name for themselves by consistently offering some of the lowest priced tickets couple with 5-star service. Their website takes a little getting used to, but is one of the easiest when you get the hang of it.
Orlando Attraction Tickets
Because of similar names, these guys are constantly confused with Attraction Tickets, but they are part of the US Rent A Car Group. Orlando Attraction Tickets has been a staple of the ticket scene in the UK for over 20 years. Their website, though, looks the most dated, and there are definitely some performance issues, but they prove to be consistently one of the cheapest providers around.
Orlando Attractions
Another popular choice for tickets, Orlando Attractions is owned by N.A.R. UK Ltd, based in Berkshire, but with offices in the UK and the USA. N.A.R. UK started out offering products to the UK travel trade, branching out to consumers through sites like Orlando Attractions. While competitive, they're not always the cheapest, but they're definitely one company you should check out. They also do single-day tickets if your itinerary doesn't stretch to 2 weeks in Orlando.
Theme Park Tickets Direct
Back in the day, Theme Park Tickets Direct was the go-to place for tickets in the UK, bigger even than Attraction Tickets. They were the ticketing arm of Keith Prowse, which went bust overnight in 2010. The owners of Orlando Attraction Tickets bought the domain in 2014, but prices are steep here compared to Orlando Attraction Tickets.
Theme Park Direct
Starting out in 2009 before rebranding in 2021, Theme Park Direct claims to serve over 30,000 customers per year. Despite a slick-looking website, there are warning signs. The terms & conditions page is unviewable, you can only contact them by email, and they do not list a company number. They state elsewhere that all sales are non-refundable.
Attraction Ticket Shop
Part of the same group as Orlando Attractions, Attraction Ticket Shop is the consumer USA Holiday specialists. Prices fairly competitive, but there are small differences in price, especially when comparing combo ticket prices. They are ABTA and IATA approved, but remember that ABTA protection doesn't apply when booking just tickets.
Options For Shorter Duration Tickets
Only when you begin to look into the costs of single-day tickets do you realise the value our 14-day tickets bring.
But 14-day tickets may not be right for everyone. So, when you need shorter duration tickets, how do you go about finding them, and what should you expect?
The first thing is setting your expectations. If you’re only visiting theme parks for a couple of days, yes, you will save money buying a 1 or 2 day ticket, but they’re not going to be cheap! A 5-day ticket sold in the US will still cost over $100 per day.
Park’s success is measured by guest spending, not how many people they can get through the gate, so day tickets are very expensive, and there is going to be no getting around that fact.

It’s also important you realise the limitations on single day tickets as they are sold differently to our one-size-fits-all approach in the UK.
Generally, the headline price you see includes entry to one park for a set number of days. Without paying extra, you won’t be allowed to park hop.
So, how can you make the most of your short visit? Ticket prices are date or year-specific, so get your dates right before you book. Tickets on a weekday are generally less than those at weekends when the parks are typically busier.
Holidays and weather are other factors. One of the cheapest times to visit is during our summer holiday, from mid-August through the end of September. Visiting during Spring Break (March-April) or Christmas will always cost more.

Buying Shorter Duration Disney World Tickets From UK
Disney is the trickiest company to find official pricing for shorter-duration tickets because all internet traffic not based in the US is routed to localised website pages because of varying privacy laws in each country.
Booking direct requires the use of a VPN to mask your location and make it appear as though you are in the US.
Disney World Base Tickets
US ticket sales are slightly different to the UK, allowing for more personalisation, but generally at a higher cost. Tickets are sold with entry to one park. This is known as your base ticket.
From here you have a choice of otions and costs to personalise your visit. Park hopping is the most popular, allowing you to visit more than one park per day. Memory Maker, Disney's popular in-park photo service, costs $75+ for one day. Water park access adds another $70-$80 for multi-day tickets.
Cancellations & Amendments
Disney World tickets are non-refundable; however, Disney is as accommodating as it can be regarding amendments.
You may amend your ticket type or duration within the My Disney Experience app up until the day before your visit. Additional costs may apply when changing your day. However, there are no refunds if your chosen day is cheaper. If you have to cancel, Disney will hold the value of your ticket in our account to be used against a future visit.
Buying Shorter Duration Universal Orlando Tickets From The UK
It's very easy to check the US ticket prices for yourself without needing a VPN or a third party for Universal Orlando from the UK, but in order to do so, you must download the Universal Orlando App.
Universal prohibits UK ticket agents from selling day tickets, so the app is the easiest way to buy these types of tickets from the UK.
Buying Tickets In The App
Like Disney, Universal's tickets are sold as a base. The default filter in the app is 3 days, but you can change it to any number of days and select the parks you want to visit to see the correct base price.
Express Passes and other features, such as park hopping and photo packages, can be added further along the buying process. Remember, if you are staying in the 3 signature-level hotels that include Express Passes, you only need to add Express Passes for Epic Universe and Volcano Bay if you wish, as neither of these parks is included in the hotel offer.
Universal's US Ticket Features
Universal Orlando's pricing model follows Disney World in that the more days you add on to your ticket, the cheaper the per-day cost becomes. Don't expect UK ticket-shattering prices though, as even with a 5-day ticket, the daily cost is still over $100.
As a very general rule, a single-day ticket will set you back between $160 and $210 plus tax. A park hopper ticket will generally be between $180 and $250 plus tax. You will usually find that tickets on weekdays are cheaper than tickets at weekends.
Buying Shorter Duration United Parks Tickets From The UK
Thankfully, United Parks makes it very easy to pick a ticket that is right for you. Their website lists 1-day tickets, all the way up to 14-day tickets, which offer the best value of the major theme park operators in Orlando.
Many tickets currently include all-day dining as standard for a set number of days, while the 14-day unlimited ticket also includes free parking, making it the best value ticket in Orlando.
United Parks Value Proposition
United Parks offers the best value of all the operators in Orlando when it comes to the daily entry cost of its parks.
Knowing that most visitors are here for Universal and Disney, United are not shy about still offering great value, easy to purchase 1, 2 and 3-day tickets on top of the 14-day headline offer.
Tickets for SeaWorld and Busch Gardens are only yeaar-specific and can be used within a 14-day validity window starting on your first entry to any park.
Discovery Cove
Many visitors come enjoy a relaxing day at Discovery Cove, Seaworld's all-inclusive day retreat.
Tickets for Discovery Cove need to be booked in advance because attendance is capped at 1,300 people per day, so tickets are also date-specific, but only for Discovery Cove.
Cancelling is free as long as you are 30 days or more out from your visit, and dates can be amended, although no refunds are given if your chosen day is cheaper than originally booked.
Buying Merlin Entertainment Tickets From UK
Out of all the main providers, Merlin doesn't operate an unlimited ticket, making them more expensive on a per attraction basis. Their recently introduced Merlin Florida Ticket ramps up the value with one-time entry into all of Merlin's venues in Florida, and with a 14-day validity, it can easily fit into your plans.
Legoland Water Park and SEALife Florida are situated inside Legoland Florida with no direct entry, so you need to visit them all on the same day. Other attractions are separately gated and can be split.
The Merlin Florida Ticket
For roughly £5 more than a 2-day pass to Legoland, the Merlin Florida Ticket allows 1 entry into each of Merlin's attractions within Florida. These include;

- Peppa Pig Theme Park
- The Orlando Eye
- SEALife Orlando Aquarium
- Madame Tussauds
The Merlin Florida Ticket is great value if you want to visit all the above attractions, but keep in mind the limited operating schedule outside busier months at Legoland and Peppa Pig Theme Parks. They are also situated in Winter Haven, roughly 45 minutes south of Kissimmee and are difficult or expensive to reach if you are not planning on driving.
ICON Park Attractions
If Legoland isn't for you, but you would still like to visit Merlin's other attractions in ICON Park on International Drive, you still have options, either directly or by using other providers.
If you only want to visit Legoland Florida and not ICON Park or vice versa, you can get shorter duration tickets on the usual sellers in the UK or directly through the Legoland Florida website. Similarly, ICON Park attractions can be bought as a bundle and are compact enough to be experienced in a day out of the main theme parks.
Bear in mind, you may find better prices by looking at other ticket sellers or Groupon for special discounts on shorter duration tickets over booking directly.

One of the largest ticket sellers in the US, Undercover Tourist, is used by thousands of people every year. They also have a fair use cancellation policy, which can depend on the ticket type, so always check before you book.
Your Ticket Genie
Your Ticket Genie sells day tickets for many Orlando theme parks and other attractions. Many of these tickets are available by searching, but for day tickets to Disney World, you'll need to call or email.
