Disney World Disability Accommodations Overview

Disney World’s Accommodations

& DAS Information

Disney World’s newest disability service, the Disability Access Service (DAS) is a direct replacement to the previous service called Guest Access Card (GAC). It was introduced in mid-2024 in response to growing and widespread abuse of the GAC system. Keep reading to find out everything about accessible services in my complete Disney World disability guide.

DAS brought unwelcome, sweeping changes to the registration process, previously handled in resort, in favour of a virtual video call, available up to 60 days in advance of your trip.

The guidelines for eligibility for the service have also been tightened, largely blocking misusers, but with some collateral damage for users whose disabilities lie in grey areas.

The specially trained cast members on the other end of the video call will ask applicants why they (or the person for whom they are acting) can’t use the standard queue.

DAS isn’t for mobility disorders, as all queues in Disney World are wheelchair accessible.

DAS is now aimed at more neurodiverse conditions, but even then, there are some, quite frankly, horrifying accounts of people being denied DAS when the other accommodations Disney provides don’t totally fit their needs either. Each case is dealt with individually on the call. If you don’t call ahead of time, you will be required to do exactly the same call using a tablet in a quiet room at the theme park before you enter.

Using DAS In The Parks

  • The person for whom the DAS has been assigned MUST ride the attraction
  • The pass is valid for the holder and 3 other people. Exceptions will only be made for the immediate family of the pass holder where nobody in the group can wait outside the line on their own or with another member (ie, not grandparents)
  • You will be required to wait a time equivalent to the current queue when you register your interest. The return times are reflected in the MDE app
  • Information will not show in the MDE app until you physically tap into the park
  • If you are park-hopping, attraction availability will not show in your second park until you tap in to that park
  • You may only hold 1 DAS registration at a time, and you must wait 10 minutes after tapping in to an attraction before making another reservation
  • Attractions can be booked, modified and cancelled in the My Disney Experience app by anyone in your travel party
  • DAS is valid for the length of your ticket, or one year, whichever is longer. You must register again using the same process if you wish to visit again
  • Your attraction selection is available until it is used or the end of the day. There is no time limit, but if you want to do a different attraction, you must first cancel your remaining registration

DAS Registration Policies & Information

  • For privacy, DAS is only available on the US Disney website. You need to downloade and activate a VPN set to an American city before loading the page.
  • You are strictly prohibited from recording the call (privacy again)
  • You must have purchased and activated your theme park tickets prior to the call
  • The person making the call must be over 18, anyone younger will need a parent/guardian to do it on their behalf
  • You need to have an active Disney World account and have connected all family members/friends travelling. They, in turn, must have active tickets to be able to be linked to you in My Disney Experience
  • Make sure you have downloaded Zoom so the registration link can open the call
  • The person for whom the service is requested must be present on the call (if only to have a photo taken for ID)
  • The service is available 7 am – 8 pm Eastern Time (12 pm – 1 am UK time). Different for a couple of weeks when our clocks change
  • You will not be asked, nor are you required to prove the disability as this is against Florida State law that Disney World operates under

DAS Controversy

Why Disney Introduced DAS

I want to explain a little bit about how and why we got here. I’m not saying I agree with Disney’s now unnecessarily harsh take on disabilities, but it’s important you understand why they had to do it.

The abuse of the GAC system was so widespread towards the end that entire tour groups (against Disney’s policies) were being paraded around the parks with leaders who had obtained a GAC card. These tour groups, sometimes 20 large would be given almost instant access to an attraction to the detriment of everyone else in the standby queue.

When DAS was introduced, Disney was sued in California by an annual passholder mother on behalf of her son who was now denied the immediate access they had so long cherished.

The law in the US is very clear: Disney, Universal and all other companies must make provision, at no cost, to those with disabilities to provide a like-for-like service. DAS fulfils that obligation. DAS passholders, when approved, now wait in a virtual line outside of the attraction before entering the Lightning Lane queue for quicker, but not instant, access to an attraction. Disney produced documented evidence in court that in some cases holders of GAC cards we able to experience significantly more attractions than those using traditional standby lines.

DAS is controversial, and perhaps too black and white when disabilities come in myriad forms, but in the eyes of the law in the US, Disney is fulfilling its obligation to now provide a like-for-like service to those few in need it deems worthy of a pass.

Mobility Issues In Disney World

mobility accommodations

This is perhaps the hardest hit group of people for whom DAS allowed them to enjoy the time in the parks. Guests with mobility issues in Disney World are now advised that queue lines are wheelchair accessible.

For those that need frequent bathroom breaks, Attraction Queue Re-Entry Meet-Up are options. Advise a cast member when exiting that you need to return to the queue and you will be held until an appropriate place in the queue where your remaining party will be able to meet you while still remaining in the queue.

Neuro Diverse Conditions In Disney World

Neurodiverse Accommodations

Although now more aligned to these conditions, DAS remains frustratingly complex. One person can be approved for a DAS pass while another with almost identical issues may be refused and offered alternative accommodations.

If a person's condition falls in this category, I urge you to have a chat with the helpline. If you are refused, you will still be given information on alternative accommodations, which you may not realise are available to help.

Queue Re-Entry & Meet-Up

On occasion you may need to leave the line, ie a toilet break, Disney offers attraction queue re-entry. In reality many people walk the line again to meet up. Please be mindful that someone asking to pass is using this little advertised service.

Queue Re-Entry & Meet-Up

Stroller As A Wheelchair

Buggies and pushchairs are not allowed in any attraction queue without first being labelled as a Stroller As A Wheelchair for those guests who use their buggy as a mobility aid in lieu of a traditional wheelchair. The big red labels can be obtained from Guest Relations allowing the buggy to be taken to the attraction boarding area where practical.

Stroller As A Wheelchair

Rider Switch

Available at most attractions throughout Disney World, Rider Switch allows your party to be split in 2 in circumstances where one person may not be able or want to ride but cannot wait alone outside. Everyone present to a cast member at the entrance. Party A enters the queue. Upon experiencing the attraction Party B (Max 2 people) entering at a designated spot will be allowed to ride without waiting again in line.

Rider Switch

Single Rider

A shrinking pool of attractions allow single riders, or parties wishing to ride singularly, access to a shorter wait in a queue with less sensory elements. While single riders often wait less than the standard queue, guests opting for this service will not be permitted to ride together nor request a specific seat or area.
