About Gatorland
Established in 1949 by Owen Godwin Sr, Gatorland has been an Orlando Institution for over 70 years.
Now stretching out to 115 acres sandwiched between two swamps thanks to 3 investors who in 1947 each dropped $100 to allow Owen to purchase the original 16-acre plot, a “borrow pit” whose dirt was used in the initial construction of Highway 441.
It’s tagline may be the “alligator capital of the world” but there is so much more to Gatorland than just alligators. Gatorland has expanded it’s initial offerings to now include three world famous shows, a petting zoo and splash play area for children plus miles of walkways with educational information on the animals that call Gatorland home including crocodiles, snakes, tortoises, wild cats and more.
Shows
In 1983 Gatorland made it’s name with the “Gator Jumparoo” show, a show that continues to enthrall visitors today. It’s one of the many ways you will be surprised at how Gatorland manages to educate you while entertaining you.
In 1991, the now 37-acre property opened it’s 2nd show and largest arena with the opening of the 800-seat Gator Stadium, home today to “Alligators: Legends Of The Swamp” show.
These 2 shows are complimented by the Up Close Encounters arena showcasing fascinating creatures from all over the world including some of the most venomous snakes on the planet.

Experiences
Gatorland is much more than it’s shows though. There is enough to see and do in the park to fill a full day; the usual opening hours are 10 am to 5 pm but they do extend them a little in peak periods.
Go off-roading on the edge of the swamp that feeds the headland of the Everglades or scream your way around the 10-acre Alligator Breeding Marsh and over open alligator and crocodile pens on Florida’s first ever zip line.
Chill out or make some new friends in the splash play area and barnyard petting zoo or just wander the miles of walkways taking in the exhibits as you go.
A day at Gatorland is about being surrounded by nature while making memories you will never forget.
