Since its initial announcement in the summer of 2015, times have been a little turbulent for the newest proposed development on International Drive.

The Skyplex is a massive mixed use development on the corner International Drive and Sand Lake Road.

Central to the development is a tower around which the new record breaking roller coaster will weave itself.  At 570ft high, the Polercoaster will shatter the current record for the world highest roller coaster, currently held by the 456ft (139m) tall Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure.

The Skyscraper Roller Coaster will also break world records for the steepest drop (123 degrees) and highest inversion. Image © Skyplex

Featuring multiple inversions, even at that already stomach churning height, and a top speed of over 50mph along the over 1 mile track length that not only hugs the tower but spreads out across the entire complex the new roller coaster will be on the must ride lists of many people already heading to both Universal Studios up the road and nearby Walt Disney World.

Rounding out the offerings along with the Intamin built Polercoaster which will be called “Skyscraper”, the tower will also be home to a 450ft tall drop tower called “Skyfall”, an observation deck and zip line attraction.

There will be more than one way to enjoy the view, like the new Skyfall attraction. Image © Skyplex

At ground level there will be 400,000 square feet of dining and retail space and a 350 room hotel along with parking for 2,700 vehicles.

Finally gaining planning approval, construction is set to begin imminently, the US$460m project will give visitors to Orlando something else to look forward to from 2018 when it is set to open to the public.

Visitors to Orlando will soon have a new way to view the area from the top of the 570ft tall Skyscraper Roller Coaster currently under construction after a protracted planning phase. Image © Skyplex
