Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park

Disney World’s smallest park by attraction count has seen an eye watering amount of investment over the last few years that has led to one of the most ambitious and immersive areas in any theme park. Along with Harry Potter at Universal, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is the future of theme park design.

Walking Distances

The physical aspect of walking around theme parks almost every day for 2 or more weeks comes as a surprise to many people. To illustrate the physical exertion, I use my Google Fit app to track my step count and distance walked in each park. I’ve crunched the numbers and the figures below represent my most recent visit to the park.

Steps Walked

25,231

Distance Walked

16.22 km (10.07 miles)

Attractions

Roller Coasters

There may only be 2 roller coasters at Hollywood Studios but they are both standout examples in their chosen areas.

Thrill Rides

A thrill ride so complex that it is still the only version of it’s kind despite numerous simpler versions at other parks

Water Rides

There some ground breaking attractions at Hollywood Studios but sadly none that are specifically water type.

Immersive Rides

Disney have blurred boundaries with Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Toy Story Land and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

Children's Rides

Fret not, there is plenty for children to do here even if the specific ride count doesn’t match up. Immersive rides and shows are where the fun is.

Shows

So many shows so little time! If you want to see every show here you may have to plan an extra day to fit it all in.

Insider Tips

Pace The Day

Generally, most attractions have shorter queues either first thing in the morning or towards the end of the day. Both Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge have fantastic lighting packages for when the sun goes down so, even if you’re not planning on riding after dark you really should check out these two areas later in the day as well as early.

Save the shows for the afternoon, especially if you are visiting in the summer months when an afternoon downpour is as guaranteed as a queue for a Starbucks coffee.

Star Wars: Rise Of The Resistance

Still one of the hottest tickets in all of Disney World. Now that virtual boarding groups have been abandoned how long you will queue for this immersive experience depends on whether you are early enough to bag your Lightning Lane Reservation or not.

If you’re staying off-resort and you want to ride this masterpiece of ride engineering make sure you check the Lightning Lane reservation window as soon as the park opens. If there are any left when the park opens, these passes sell out faster than poncho sales in a Florida downpour!

If you are one of the many that need to join the traditional standby line do it either earlier in the day or wait until after 6 pm when crowds start to thin. You will be queueing for over an hour but it will be less than if you join the queue from mid-morning through late afternoon.

Night Time Spectaculars

Fantasmic will be returning soon but in the meantime, Disney has already re-introduced the Wonderful World Of Animation, a stirring 12-minute tribute to 90 years of Disney and Pixar animation projected onto the facade of the Chinese Theater. The show currently plays at 9pm but may be altered once Fantasmic returned from it’s extended refurbishment.
